I found a short mention in a 1957 issue of the The Sporting News that quantified the volume of fan mail received by the Cleveland Indians circa 1957.Noreen Schmidt was a secretary for the team. She told TSN that during the season 500 letters were received from fans each week.
On an annual basis, she handled 12,000 requests for individual player photos.
